IV International Webinar on the Caspian Seal
On August 8-9, 2023, IV International webinar “Status of the Caspian seal (Pusa caspica) population – present and future” will be held by the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Institute of Hydrobiology and Ecology with the support of Tengizchevroil LLP.
The moderator: Kuanysh B. Isbekov, General Director of the Scientific and Production Fisheries Center, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Associate Professor.

The Organising Committee invites specialists to participate in the webinar to exchange experience, research results and discuss topical issues related to the Caspian seal, as well as to status and conservation of other pinnipeds.
The draft program includes the following topics for discussion:
1. What are the causes of mortality of Caspian seals? Researches, hypotheses, and facts;
1.1. The Caspian Sea as habitat of the Caspian seal: the impact of climate heating, water content, decline in the sea level on the species distribution;
1.2. Pollution of the sea – sources, management etc;
1.3. Caspian seal mortality – numbers, researches and causes;
2. Conservation of the Caspian seal – realities, contradictions, and future perspectives;
2.1. Assessment of the Caspian seal population status;
2.2. National initiatives and measures taken by Caspian states to protect the Caspian seal;
2.2.1. Creation of a State Nature Reserve in the Kazakhstan sector of the Caspian Sea to preserve the Caspian seal population (speakers: Fisheries Committee of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan in collaboration with KAPE LLP);
2.3. International cooperation for the conservation of the Caspian seal.
The sessions duration: 10:00-17:00 (UTC+6). The webinar will be conducted in an online format, in Russian and English with simultaneous translation.

Speakers are kindly asked to inform on their presentation topic and language also. The deadline for submission of presentations – August 01.
