During monitoring of the Caspian Sea coast, the Tyub-Karagan Peninsula, Kazakhstan, stranded Caspian seals were found. By April 17, 2026, the total number of dead animals recorded on the peninsula from Bautinskaya Spit to the village of Asan had reached 191.

An expedition team has been formed to collect biological samples, determine the cause of their death, and dispose of them. This team includes representatives from Caspian Seal State Nature Reserve of the Fisheries Committee, Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Fisheries Inspectorate, Akimat, Tupkaragan Regional Department of Internal Affairs, Department of Ecology, Veterinary Control and Surveillance Inspectorate, Institute of Hydrobiology and Ecology, Caspian Seal Research and Rehabilitation Center, and Qazaq Balyq Republican Association of Fisheries and Aquaculture.

According to specialists from the Institute of Hydrobiology and Ecology (Almaty), the seals died approximately a month ago, but they were only washed up on Tyub-Karagan in April due to strong westerly winds. The coastal monitoring continues.
