International Foundation for Biodiversity Conservation to be established in Kazakhstan
On March 13-14, 2025, IV Session of National Kurultai was held in Burabay, Kazakhstan. Established in June, 2022, National Kurultai is a consultative and advisory public body, uniting civil society leaders, scientists, writers, representatives of expert groups for law development and commissions under government agencies. National Kurultai plays an important role in developing civil society, identifies its most challenges and proposes solutions. It is chaired by the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Kemelevich Tokayev.
Speaking to participants at IV Session, K.-J.K. Tokayev resumed key issues, including the conservation of nature, ‘The task of protecting biological diversity has become extremely urgent in our country, known throughout the world for its natural resources and, above all, its wildlife. I know that yesterday, during the working sections, Auyl Party raised issues related to saigas. <…> Caspian seals, pink flamingos and other unique animals, which nature itself has gifted us with, also require our close attention. The animal and plant world are now in danger due to destructive people activities. This must be admitted with bitterness. I consider it necessary to create an International Foundation for Biodiversity Conservation. As the Head of State, I am ready to personally head this public organisation in order to emphasise the special importance of this great work.’
Kassym-Jomart Kemelevich Tokayev instructed the Government of Kazakhstan to comprehensively study issues on the creation of this foundation, involving relevant specialists.
