Sixth Caspian Expedition
From September 8 to 11, 2022, Caspian Seal Research and Rehabilitation Center and the Central Asian Institute for Environmental Research (CAIEIR) took part in their sixth scientific expedition to study the status of the Caspian seal population and its habitats in the Kazakhstani part of the Caspian Sea.
The studies were carried out in the Komsomolets Bay, on Durneva Island, near the villages of Shalytau, Kiyakty, Taushyk, Atash and Bautino. During the expedition, vessel observations of the Caspian seal were carried out on the route Bautino port – the Komsomolets Bay, samples of sea water and bottom sediments were collected. All samples were passed to CAIER laboratories for further analyses.
