The Seal Nature Reserve
In early December 2021, a meeting was held on the creation of a nature reserve to preserve the Caspian seal population. The event, which was held online, was attended by representatives of the Fisheries Committee of the Ministry of Ecology, Geology of Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan, North Caspian Operating Company N.V., Kazakhstan Agency of Applied Ecology, Scientific and Production Center of Fisheries of the Ministry of Ecology, Geology of Natural Resources the Republic of Kazakhstan; Institute of Hydrobiology and Ecology, the Central Asian Institute for Ecological Research, Caspian Seal Research and Rehabilitation Centre, KazEcoProject, and UNDP.
The participants organised a working group to develop a program for the Caspian seal conservation and protection of its habitats in the Northern Caspian, discussed proposals from various organisations for creating Seal Nature Reserve.
