Winter’s Calling

Winter’s Calling is a film about the International Caspian Expedition in 2019, made by Film Director and Director of Photography Sarah Del Ben (Lyon, France).

The expedition took place in early February, 2019. The scientists from A.N. Severtsov Institute of Ecology and Evolution of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Moscow, Russia) and the Central Asian Institute of Ecological Research (Almaty, Kazakhstan) conducted joint field studies in the Kazakhstan water area of the North Caspian. The obtained scientific data would help researchers to assess the current status of the Caspian seal population.

Participants in the expedition were Aselle Tasmagambetova, Adylkhan Tovasarov, and Amir Arykbayev (Central Asian Institute of Ecological Research, LLP, Almaty, Kazakhstan), Dmitri Glazov and Nataliya Shumeyko (A.N. Severtsov Institute of Ecology and Evolution of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow, Russia), Saken Dildakhmet  (the Committee of Forestry and Wildlife of the Ministry of Agriculture of the RK, Almaty, Kazakhstan), Zhanarbek Amankulov (Saparlas Industrial & Architectural Photography, Almaty, Kazakhstan), and Alibek Zhalelov (Mangistau Regional Territorial Inspectorate of Forestry and Wildlife, Aktau, Republic of Kazakhstan).

The international expedition was carried out under the support of  Sabi Charitable Foundation.
