Current status of the Caspian seal population (attempts to comprehend)

The data presented in the article convincingly demonstrate the continuing degradation of the Caspian seal population and the necessity of complete moratorium on its commercial hunting. The International Commission on Bioresources of the Caspian Sea should prohibit commercial hunting of Caspian seals for several years, since the existing quotas reach or even exceed the birth rates of puppies. Coordinators of the international network for the survey of Caspian seals suggest that even with a low level of commercial hunting, the population status will continue to deteriorate.
